Travel Tips,  Using Points

How to use online shopping portals to earn additional points?

If you’re new to the points game, you probably think that the only way you can earn airline miles or hotel points for travel redemption is to pay for a ticket and fly or stay at a hotel. I’m here to tell you that is NOT the case. You can earn points or miles by using online shopping portals.

Your points may be additional ultimate chase points which can be converted to hotel points or airline miles or any mileage program you chose. Here are examples of online shopping portals I use often:

Chase Ultimate Rewards

If you’ve read my post about the Best Travel Credit Cards for 2019 (click here), you know how much I LOVE the Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card. The Chase Sapphire Preferred card is great too for starters. These two cards (among other chase cards) allow you to earn chase ultimate reward points where you can transfer those points to hotels and airline programs of your choice or simple use it to pay for your travel. I have transferred chase ultimate rewards points to airline points as I needed additional points to redeem an award, most recently United mileage points for my upcoming Asia trip.

In order to get additional chase ultimate points while shopping, login to your chase ultimate rewards (click here). Look for “Earn Bonus Points”, then this should open up the shopping portal. From there, you can search for the store(s) you’d like to buy from online and SHOP!

Once you use the link, you are redirected to the website you picked, then shop like you normally would. After your purchase, you should get an email from the Chase Sapphire Reserve or whichever Chase credit card you used when you purchased. The email will note your purchase and how many additional points you received. Happy shopping!

Airlines Shopping Portals

You can search for the airline mileage program you’d like to earn additional points, they should have a shopping rewards portal. These include American Airlines (AA) AAdvantage, Delta Airlines SkyMiles, United MileagePlus, Alaska Mileage Plan, etc. I’ve had a few AA points so I tend to chose their shopping portal to earn additional points. Again, you have options!

I’m showing you how to do the AA shopping portal. I’m sure it’s the same process as the other airline mileage portal. Go to their website (click here). Then search for the website you’d like to shop at, click shop now. Then you should be redirected to the website and shop like you normally would.

After you shop, you should get an email from the airline rewards program. In my case, the AAdvantage eShopping Mall, which indicates my purchase and how many points I earned.

Overall, I love getting points for something I would normally do online anyway. Yes, it’s more processes since I’m not directly clicking on the website. However, it is so WORTH the additional points!
