Best Places to Visit in Rome
To me, Rome is one of the most distinguished cities in Europe. Do you agree? To be honest, my trip to Italy was planned around Positano and Capri, not Rome. I figured I can just go to Rome on another trip but I’m so glad I got a glimpse of Rome, even for just a day/night. Needless to say, I was impressed and I’ll definitely be back! Here are the Best Places to Visit in Rome:
DRINKS
Since I was only there for a day/night, I had no particular restaurant reserved or planned ahead of time. I pretty much just walked around and found a place to dine. It wasn’t that impressive so I’ll skip the food part. For drinks, however, I reserved a speakeasy in advance called Jerry Thomas Project. I absolutely recommend this place. It is super cute and quaint. You need a password to get in via their website but if you have a reservation and don’t know the password, you should still be fine. One thing tho, hopefully you’re not too bothered by the little smoke in your vicinity. There was someone who smoked inside while I was there so I just tried to stay as far away as possible. As you may know, smoking is prevalent in Europe.
SIGHT-SEE
There are so many places to visit in Rome. Without a doubt, I still have a ton of places to explore. I suggest you get tickets beforehand to reduce wait times on the places below, click here to get tickets. Also, if you have limited time, I highly recommend getting one of those rickshaw to take you around the spots you want to visit. It’s super fun, easy on your legs and you get to hit most of the must-see places in Rome quicker. I did this in Paris and now Rome. It was certainly worth the money. A major plus is when your driver is super entertaining and tell you all kinds of stories. haha!
Vatican–Personally, this place is like the Eiffel Tower, it’s so distinct. To me, it was such a surreal experience being able to see the Vatican. I mean, just WOW! Unfortunately, I arrived in Rome too late in the afternoon so I wasn’t able to get into the Sistine Chapel and the Vatican museum. Looking forward to next time!
Trevi Fountain–Romance is in the air! You’ve probably seen a lot of movies where you wish, throw a coin and hope your wish will come true. This is exactly the place where you could do it in Rome. Isn’t it romantic? This is probably one of the most crowded places in Rome at least during peak times. As a result, I can barely get a picture so be ready!
Spanish Steps–this is one of the widest stairways in Europe and has over 100 steps. The top of the steps has an amazing view of Rome which I love. People like to sit/relax in the area and the place is also close to the rows of shopping centers. Yay, shopping!
Colosseum–this is an oval amphitheatre in the center city of Rome and built of travertine, tuff and brick faced concrete. The place is gigantic and one of the iconic buildings in Rome. It’s truly a work of art.
Arc of Constantine–have you seen the Arc de Triomphe in Paris or the Arc de Triompf in Barcelona? This reminds me of those two arches. Arc of Constantine is situated near the Colosseum and the Palatine Hill. Seriously, you can’t miss it when you’re in the Colosseum area. This structure was created to commemorate Constantine I’s victory over Maxentius at the Battle of Milvian Bridge in 312. In general, Europe’s arches are always so impressive.
Pantheon–this is a former Roman temple but is now a church. In fact, the word Pantheon is a Greek adjective meaning honor all gods. The surrounding area is large and full of tourists wanting to get a glimpse of it. When I was there, someone was singing nearby which was pretty cool and entertaining.
HOTEL
I had booked Rome Times Hotel initially but the hotel was overbooked so they put me in a room in their sister property next door called Rome Glam Hotel. I can’t compare the two since I didn’t step in the room of Rome Times Hotel. However, I feel fortunate that I got a room in the Rome Glam Hotel. The place is so glamorous, artsy and very cute.
I love the rooftop of this hotel as it has a great view of the city. I also received a free bottle of champagne and breakfast I believe because I booked it via Expedia where I have silver status but I’m not really sure! Maybe they were just apologizing for their overbooking. I recommend checking the hotel rate if the breakfast is included.
Overall, one day and one night in Rome is too short but I’m glad I got to explore the city even for just a little bit. There are so many places and restaurants to explore so I can’t wait to come here again someday.
