Best Places to Visit in Capri
Oh Capri, how gorgeous can you be! When I was deciding between staying in Capri and Positano, I opted for Positano. This is because a lot of the hotels in Capri wanted a minimum stay of three days. I still think it was a good decision to stay in Positano but Capri is MUST see while you’re in the Amalfi Coast. Here are the Best Places to Visit in Capri, Italy:
HOW TO GET THERE:
You can take a ferry from Positano to Capri. It’s available a few times a day for about 22 euros. You can also rent a private boat for a higher price. For me, I opted for the middle range and took an all day excursion via Viator titled Small Group Capri Cruise from the Amalfi Coast which was approximately $196 for two people. If you sign up for Viator email, you can get a 10% discount so this turned out to be $176.
It rained the morning of the tour in Positano. However, it cleared up by the time I met up with the small group for departure at 8:30am. It seemed like that type of weather is pretty normal for Positano. The tour included three swim stops along the way. Unfortunately, the tide was too high so the group could not go into the famous Blue Grotto , a former private bath of Roman Emperor Tiberius. Hopefully, you get a better weather when you go to Capri. I’ve heard a lot of great things about Blue Grotto.
Along the way, the tour guide showed us a couple of caves and the renowned Faraglioni rock formations. You may have seen this on the Dolce and Gabbana ad campaign.
FOOD:
Since I was only in Capri for about five hours, I had limited time to explore the island. For food, I suggest Lemoncello de Capri Cafe, near the marina. They have the best lemoncello drink in town. If you don’t know what a lemoncello is, it’s an Italian lemon liqueur. I definitely recommend getting a lemoncello drink while dining here. The food here is good, nothing too exciting but I can tell you that it was cheaper than expected. They have chicken caesar wrap, pizza, etc. which was a good change from eating pasta the past few days. haha!
I tried another restaurant with the marina view before going back to the boat but I could not remember the name. Anyway, there are so many good restaurants in Capri. I recommend researching for restaurants with a view since there are plenty of choices. Keep in mind that Capri is a little crowded during the summer months.
SIGHT-SEE:
I recommend the Shops at Capri which are mostly overlooking the ocean in Capri Town. This means you have to take the cable car up so be sure to bring cash with you to buy the ticket. The line may seem super long but it actually only takes 10 minutes or less to get into the cable car as it can hold plenty of people per trip.
While there, be sure to check out the cute homemade bags/sandals, gelato, and so many more boutique stores. Of course, Capri has the high end/luxury stores as well such as Chanel. There’s plenty of stores for everyone. My best buy was a Capri bag for around $25 which became my go to carry-on bag.
While walking around and checking out the stores in Capri, I stumbled upon the entrance to Hotel Luna. It’s such a gorgeous hotel with the best view of the ocean and the Faraglioni rocks. This is perfect for taking pictures so you must visit! The place has a beautiful garden leading up to the hotel.
Another area I would recommend exploring is the Gardens of Augustus. This is a botanical garden on the island but the most amazing part is the view. You’re at the very top and it’s just magical seeing the beauty of Capri.
An area I didn’t get to explore was AnaCapri because of my limited time. In AnaCapri, there is a Chair Lift Monte Solaro where you could see all of Capri. If you’re not afraid of heights and have plenty of time to peruse the island. Try it out!
Overall, the tour was a fantastic day trip from Positano. Capri has amazing ocean views everywhere, just unbelievable! I absolutely recommend visiting the island while you’re in Italy. If you love Italy and want Positano recommendations, check out Best Places to Visit in Positano.
